Mogadishu, Somalia (AHN) - A Taiwanese fishing vessel with a crew of 28 on board have seized by the pirates in the Indian Ocean, the European Union Naval Force Somalia said on Monday.
The fishing boat Tai Yuan 227 was hijacked last week about 700 nautical miles northeast of the Seychelles. The Seychelles are an archipelago of 115 islands about 930 miles east of Africa.
The ship was reported hijacked by Taipei Rescue Command Centre via IMB.
Tai Yuan 227 has a crew of 28 (9 Chinese, 3 Vietnamese, 3 Filipinos, 7 Kenyans and 2 Mozambique) and it is believed that all are well. The ship is en route to the coast of Somalia.
The EU Naval Force is patrolling the pirate-infested waters of Somalia as part of a United Nations-backed mission to curb piracy, which has since spilled into the waters of the entire region.
