FYI: Filipinos make up the largest portion of the seafaring community.
The way the media is covering it gives many people who are not familiar with maritime policy the idea that piracy is a "new thing". In truth, piracy never really went away. And the sole focus on the Gulf of Aden also gives the idea that piracy is limited to that region when in fact it is an issue elsewhere (i.e Strait of Malacca).
